Latvian version of a famous "Sunscreen" by Buz Luhrmann. Translated, narrated and arranged with the help of my friends who agreed to help me to fulfill my 15 year dream. The original text was altered slightly, to meet Latvia's reality, as well as several lines were added, because I felt that I need and have something to share through this text.
The idea behind the original Aizsargkrems video was to visualize a connection between me and people in the video, who were either friends of mine, either relatives or someone who's influence meant a lot to me. This was sort of Thank You from me. I proposed everyone to choose the most corresponding phrase of the song which would symbolize a moment of the past or present for them, or a challenge they are accepting today. And then during the chorus I allowed myself being painted over, thus saying that my personality is hugely affected by my social life. My friends and family literally paint me everyday.
I've experienced a huge support from the people I worked with - more than 100 friends were participating. Every filming was an exclamation mark - I've met people I haven't seen for several years. And every five second scene was actually a several hour talk and laugh with a big story behind the appearance on the screen.
The result was surprising. The song was aired several times on major stations in Latvia, while the video was obviously too intimate to reach the broader audience. And while feeling a huge disappointment about this, I realized that the filming itself was a major story for me. I was completely exhausted after filming it in 5 different countries over the course of 60 days, but the social effect was amazing - I felt being a part of bigger community where I can be a driving force, sharing and experiencing ideas.
This project played the major part in my Le Pendu performance, where I've tried to stage the emotions behind my Aizsargkrems experience.
