Le Pendu (The Hangman) - performative trilogy
Perfomance | Photography | Book | Meditation
Yesterday, I was sleeping in a cocoon, absorbing energy and meanings from outside. Motionless until my card is played. Le Pendu – Tarot card – the hanged man. Sacrificing today for the sake of tomorrow. Artist contemplation in order to inhale surrounding vibrations. I woke up and created a statue. The gallows-bird. I gave it the only thing I had – myself. It is the ultimate act of creation - sacrificing time, relationships, money, ambitions, and dreams, thus giving yourself completely, disappearing within your creation. Leaving yourself breathless. Tomorrow this statue will be available for attendance. The audience will feed me with attentive indifference, distanced interest. I am a Vampire. Devouring energy for a new world right in front of your eyes. Should you be afraid of audience’s indifference, knowing that only the presence of this very audience constructs the paradigm within which your creation gets the ability to exist? Without the recepient it's all just an act of self-pleasure. Everything after is a trinity of artist-creation-audience. It is a spectator who hangs the man. And it is a hanged man who is to realize the purpose of himself before stepping in front of a crowd to be hanged and observed till the end of time, becoming a magnet, filled up with attention, ready to explode in this interdependent universe, where you ought to change the surrounding, so that it can change you. "Un tikai tā es dzīvot varu - kā vēja zvans, kas sevi sit un skan” “You can't burn out if you're not on fire” “Но если я буду долго смотреть на тебя, Ты услышишь мой взгляд” “Nach dem Spiel ist for dem Spiel” |
About Project On May the 7th, 2015 in Skatuve theater the first act of a trilogy called "Le Pendu"- The Hangman was staged. This performance was the beginning of my exploration of interactions between the author, its creation and the audience. The metaphor to be created on the stage becomes a reality, provoking the audience into the real emotional exchange with the artist, and what suddenly appears to be the master plan of the whole performance. On May the 20th, 2017 the book of the same name was published and presented. The book explores the moment of interaction with the viewer, contraposing the artistic process of self-acknowledgment and the articulated reaction of an audience. The book can be previewed here.
On May the 31st, 2019 the final part of the trilogy will be aired. And while each part represents the full cycle of an artistic sinergy between the author, the art and the audience, every part on its own accentuates on certain stage of this interaction using its own media.
The performance, as the first act, is focused on the artist (the hanging stage). The book, as the second act, is accentuated on the audience feedback (the vampire stage). And the third part will be dedicated to the meditation (the Le Pendu stage), thus completing the cycle. |
Last spurt left for me
Where I sacrifice myself, By creating a painting. The gallows. The symbol. Each painting Consists of my time. Each verse Is made of my friends. My family, powers, My work and ambitions - Everything is geting burned To blow my sails. Who am I for you? A victim of my own fantasy? A martyr of art? Or a madman without the right for? Now look closely where my hands go. Dead already, and yet continued. Le Pendu - living dead me. And you - the spectator. I live in your non carelessness. Live by dying And turn myself into.. Yes, I turn myself. |
A vampire.
Hands crossed on my chest. I see eyes, Aspiration at me. I've given my life I will now take the attention, Dislike, love, Adoration and fear. Rush of blood to my mouth. You are in front of me. A kiss, so that I feel my strength again. You are my critic, And I'm continuing in your thought As long as You think of me. There is a master plan Where we play together. Where I become The director out of victim. And now, Fulfilled, I become motionless in my dance And round we go. |
The flick of the new card
Of Tarot deck. Upside down in the noose. I am the hangman. Symbol of humility. Meditation here for the tomorrow. The superiority over the matter, And the new height For the new point of view Where there are an acceptance of the course of things. Where I fall asleep to wake up After a thousand years. Odin, who was nailed by a spear, Got in possession of runes. Me, having an energy of the audience, Got in possession of a new space for a new struggle. This is a time To collect the stones, Patch the sails, And grow my braids, To enter the waters again Of the river of bustling life. And to grow out of soil Fertilized by the ashes of burnt paintings. The circle is completed. My way is completed as well. To continue. I am the hangman. I'm creating. An absolute masterpiece. That requires from me. An ultimate sacrifice. |
